Knight of the Month, Skip LeMire, was a KofC sponsored Squire in his youth and was initiated a Brother Knight of Columbus in 1999. We needed to wait in line to recognize him as his picture with a short story appeared in the March edition of the national Knights of Columbus magazine, The Columbian (page 29). The caption described Skip’s long time ministry in monthly visits to nursing homes; taking with him his parrot; thus the name of the group being the “Parrot-Troopers.” This group also delivered KofC baskets of treats and joy at Christmas to 30 nursing home residents who do not receive regular visits. Before that, Skip received a plaque recognizing his volunteer work at St. Christopher Parish in Marquette working with the pastie sale. Skip has served as a council officer, works at breakfasts and Tootsie Roll sales, and provides a degree of levity at our meetings. Please join Brother Knights in recognizing Skip for all he does to better our parish and community.
Family of the month, Steven Richards and his sons Arthur (Alex) and Marcus are members of St. Peter and St. Michael parishes. The Church has been the Richards’ family foundation. Facing family struggles, they are prayerfully grateful for the patient love and guidance of Monsignors Jed Patrick and Michael Steiber. Steven has been a devoted care-giver to Marcus who is autistic. Steven, a Third degree Knight, has shown love through charity, being very active with fundraisers for Special Olympics, relief drives for Hatiti and Africa, and as volunteer for Room At The Inn. He is also a trustee for Council 689 and is a regular worker for Tootsie Roll sales, breakfasts, prayer services and other KofC programs. Alex was an altar server for his many years at St. Michael Parish and attended Father Marquette middle and elementary schools. A St. Michael parishioner, Alex plans to graduate in 2017 from Northern Michigan University with a double major in history and criminal justice. Marcus loves attending Mass at St. Peter’s with his father. Please show your appreciation and support for Steven and his sons by offering your congratulations the next time you see them.
